The Student Mobility Program organized by Bali Tourism Polytechnic (Poltekpar Bali) together with UCSI University Malaysia successfully introduced participants to cultural diversity and sustainability practices in the tourism industry. With the theme “Nurturing Diversity, Promoting Sustainability,” this program aims to enrich students’ academic insights through cultural exchange, industry experience, and exploration of sustainable tourism destinations in Bali. The activity, which took place from March 3 to 8, 2025, involved students from UCSI University Malaysia who had the opportunity to get to know Balinese culture better, as well as understand the concept of sustainable tourism.
During the program, participants were invited to visit various tourist destinations that support the theme of sustainability, such as Jatiluwih, which is a UNESCO world heritage site, and to take part in culinary workshop activities at Rumah Desa Tabanan. In addition, they also participated in the Kecak Dance performance at Uluwatu, and rafting on the Ayung River which provided an unforgettable adventure tourism experience. All of these activities were designed to introduce students to the richness of Balinese culture while teaching them how sustainability can be applied in tourism.
In addition to gaining cultural and tourism experience, participants also gained academic insights related to event management and tour package creation. Students from the Convention & Event Management Study Program learned the process of planning and implementing tourism events, while students from the Travel and Tourism Business Study Program learned about how to develop and manage tourism products. The program also provided an opportunity to build international networks, opening up opportunities for further collaboration between Poltekpar Bali and UCSI University Malaysia. The program received positive responses from participants who felt they had gained valuable experience in understanding cultural diversity and the importance of sustainability in the tourism industry. As a result, Poltekpar Bali and UCSI University Malaysia plan to expand this collaboration by adding academic activities and industry practices in the future. This program not only provides new experiences for students but also strengthens academic relations between the two institutions for the development of more sustainable tourism.
